Biz Owners Academy 2014-2015

Four workshop series, START, GROW, INTERNET MARKETING, and MARKETING WARRIOR are scheduled to begin in November 2014. Sessions  in each series are designed to be taken as a complete course, but can be taken individually. You should register for each session you intend to take. Walk ins are welcome, if seats are available. Pre-registration is advisable.

Start Series -  This series has been concluded for the year.

 

 

Grow Series - Instructors are John Merola, Tom Malkus, and Jay Aldridge  with all sessions to be held at the Mid- County Library, Port Charlotte on Saturdays from 10 am to 1 pm.

Business Assessment and Goal Setting

Session 1 of the Grow series.  This workshop will help you assess the current state of your business and will provide a framework for setting goals for the future of the business.  You will be asked to complete a business evaluation form prior to attending.  Topics include: assessing your business' strengths and weaknesses, setting goals for the business, elements of a strategic plan, techniques for creating one, an overview of the other five sessions. You will be assigned a mentor for follow up.  January 10, 2015. Pre-registration tuition $15. Walk-in tuition $18.

Marketing Your Business

Session 2 of the Grow series.  This workshop will provide you with marketing communication methods and tools to maximize your customer reach and retention. The discussion in the Marketing Plan workshop covers identification of your marketing goals, social media and online marketing, public relations and advertising strategies, event marketing, cause marketing, creating “Raving Fans” and evaluating your business and your team. January 17, 2015. Pre-registration tuition $15. Walk-in tuition $18.

Growing Your Sales

Session 3 of the Grow series.  This workshop will help you identify strategies and methods to increase your sales. Topics include:  expanding your distribution channels, building and motivating your sales team, benchmarking and evaluating your business’ needs. We’ll also take a look at how using a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system can help you manage and retain customers. January 24, 2015. Pre-registration tuition $15. Walk-in tuition $18.

Financial Management

Session 4 of the Grow series.  This workshop will improve your understanding of financial concepts and how to use them to  make better decisions for your business. Topics include: working with trusted advisors, using financial statements to manage your business, understanding and using financial ratios, managing risk, using cash flow forecasts and funding your business’ growth.  Pre-registration tuition $15. Managing Operations

Session 5 of the Grow series.  This workshop is designed to help small business owners learn more about effectively operating their businesses for profitability. It will introduce you to new ways of viewing operational performance data so you can monitor the status of the key performance indicators and use them to drive business success. Topics include: operations and company goals; identifying, managing and measuring critical operations; preparing for growth; KPIs and Dashboards.  February 7, 2015. Pre-registration tuition $15. Managing Your Time, People and Resources

Session 6 of the Grow series.  In this workshop, you will be encouraged to take a close look at your company to evaluate where your business might be weak. You will use this knowledge to determine whether additional staff is necessary or if tasks should be outsourced to external resources to help achieve your goals. Topics include: hiring practices, employee training, development and motivation, attaining peak performance, using outside resources, and effective delegation and time management.February 14, 2015. Pre-registration tuition $15. Walk-in tuition $18

Internet Marketing Series  Instructors are Bob Burkholder and Gwyneth Wint. Both sessions will be held at the Mid-County Library, Port Charlotte on Saturdays from 10 am to 1 pm..  

Web Sites

Session 1 of the Internet Marketing Series. This workshop will provide you with basic information about how to use a web site in your marketing program or as an e-commerce site. Topics include: web site pre-design considerations, hosting options and features,  merchant accounts, e-commerce tips, designing  your site, coding and uploading, testing your site, marketing your site. February 21, 2015. Pre-registration tuition $15. Walk-in tuition $18.   This is an interactive workshop, so please bring your laptop if one is available.

Social Media

Session 2 of the Internet Marketing Series. This workshop will introduce you to the use of social media in your marketing program. Topics include: the value of social media, the pros and cons of using it, five types of social media and examples of their use, the do's and don'ts when using it. February 28, 2015. Pre-registration tuition $15. Walk-in tuition $18.

​​Marketing Warrior Series    Instructors are Bill McCabe, Frank Vorlicek, Gavin Cochran, and Steve Meihack with all sessions to be held at the Mid-County Library, Port Charlotte on Saturdays from 10 am to 1 pm.  

 

Marketing Concepts

Session 1 of the Marketing Warrior Series. This workshop will provide you with an understanding of the principles and concepts that underlie any marketing program. Topics include: marketing defined, the role of the marketing warrior and the weapons they use, why customers buy what they buy, how to sharpen your advertising tools, an overview of the other six sessions.  You will be assigned a mentor for follow up. March 7, 2015. Intelligence Gathering and the Warriors Arsenal

Session 2 of the Marketing Warrior Series. This workshop will discuss marketing research and the marketing warrior's arsenal - advertising. Topics include: identifying valuable customers, market research, customer opt in, winning the battle and losing the war, twenty steps to advertising success, six ways to make advertising work. March 21, 2015. Pre-registration tuition $15. Walk-in tuition $18.

Mini-Media: low cost winning tools

Session 3 of the Marketing Warrior Series. This workshop will review the use of effective, but less expensive advertising weapons available to the marketing warrior. Topics include: presentations on  twelve types of mini-media, suggestions about others. March 28, 2015. Pre-registration tuition $15. Walk-in tuition $18

Maxi-Media: expensive but powerful

Session 4 of the Marketing Warrior Series. This workshop will review the use of the most powerful , but most expensive adverting weapons available to the marketing warrior. Topics include: presentations on seven types on maxi-media. April 11, 2015. Pre-registration tuition $15. Walk-in tuition $18

New-Media: putting the internet to work

Session 5 of the Marketing Warrior Series. This workshop will review the latest weapons in the marketing warrior's arsenal.  Topics include presentations on: Web Site Advertising,  Email Advertising,  Content Advertising,  Social Media Advertising. Human-Media: people sell

Session 6 of the Marketing Warrior Series. This workshop will review the human element of marketing. Advertising  may produce prospects but an actual warrior must close the sale. Topics include: canvassing, what it is and its many forms, the four step canvassing process. May 2, 2015. Pre-registration tuition $15. Walk-in tuition $18

 

Putting it all together in a Marketing Plan

Session 7 of the Marketing Warrior Series . This workshop will show you a practical way to put what you have learned  into a battle plan for your business.  Topics include: a discussion of a seventeen step way to create a plan using worksheets, a practical exercise in creating one plan.
